CUSTOMS RELEASE
KEEPING YOU INFORMED

Issue73912 April 2024
Are you going overseas for the school holidays?

When you return, you can complete a digital New Zealand Traveller Declaration (NZTD) before you fly back into New Zealand – replacing the need to fill out a paper declaration card on the plane.

Everyone coming into New Zealand needs to complete an NZTD. You'll answer questions about your trip and what's in your bags. You can complete it at a time that suits you, on the NZTD website or by downloading the NZTD app, and submit it 24 hours before your trip back to New Zealand.

Pseudoephedrine cold and flu medicines

Importers and their agents are advised that the recent changes to the legal status of pseudoephedrine (and medicines which contain it) have NOT changed the import controls.

Pseudoephedrine remains and will remain a controlled drug under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1975. Therefore a licence to import issued by the Ministry of Health specific to the consignment is required for each importation, regardless of value or intended end use. Up to one month's supply for the personal therapeutic use of the traveller can be brought in physically with the traveller. It cannot be imported as unaccompanied "personal effects".

For more information on pseudoephedrine cold and flu medicines click on the link below.

New Zealand Food Safety within the Ministry for Primary Industries is launching a new newsletter

Food Importer News is a regular e-newsletter for food importers, agents and food businesses that provides updates about the rules for importing food under the Food Act 2014. It is a valuable source of information for anyone who imports food for sale, including ingredients, alcohol and dietary supplements.
