Despite the looming presence of COVID-19 this year, Port Authority of NSW has been able to make considerable headway on our key strategic projects and plans. As we all find our footing in the "new normal," we want to ensure that our partners, customers and community can all share in the progress and achievements we've had in 2021, so far. 

In this issue of Port Matters, we share some exciting updates that cover new technology, port management systems and celebrate the recent successes of Port Authority NSW.

New tech innovation: helps Ampol deliver the goods
The introduction of Dynamic Under Keel Clearance System (DUKC) allows Marine Pilots and Harbour Masters to receive highly accurate & detailed data to bring vessels into port safely. Read more

 

 

Australian First: Record berthing at Port Botany
The safe arrival of the deepest and heaviest container ship ever at the Port drummed up some excitement for Port Authority NSW this October.

World Maritime Day: Lending a helping hand to seafarers
The theme of this years' World Maritime Day is 'seafarers, the core of shipping's future.' Port Authority NSW works alongside Sister Mary Leahy of Stella Maris Catholic Chaplaincy to promote the wellbeing of seafarers and the sustainability of the industry.

Illawarra Business Awards: Port Kembla finalists
Port Authority NSW is thrilled to be recognised as a finalist in the prestigious 2021 IMB Bank Illawarra Business Awards for supporting Illawarra industries and the business community through the COVID pandemic.  Read more

 

 

Maritime Farewell: Marine Pilot retires A number of long-serving Marine Pilots have retired recently, with Sydney Pilots Neil Farmer, Colin Kesteven and Tony Hansen all deciding to start their next chapter. Port Kembla local Marine Pilot Don Buckthought also retired with a magnificent send-off, after more than 30 years on deck.

Oil Spill Drill: Newcastle 
The Newcastle Marine Operations team moved swiftly into emergency mode recently, because of an oil spill exercise designed to test out its incident control plan and procedures.
