Minister announces Border Permits Review

Earlier today, the Minister for Home Affairs, the Hon Peter Dutton MP, announced that the Department of Home Affairs will commence a whole-of-government "Border Permits Review" into the legislative and business process requirements for border permits and associated licenses for prohibited imports and exports.

The Review is a critical step in regulatory reform to support the trade modernisation agenda. It will examine goods imported and exported under the Customs Regulations 1956, the Customs Regulations 1958 and associated legislation. Wine, pharmaceuticals and goods subject to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora will also be included.

The deadline for initial submissions is 11:59pm AEST Tuesday 30 April 2019. Home Affairs will report the Review's findings to Government by the end of December 2019.
