DCN -  UPDATE ON THE BMSB REFORMS

FTA advised the minister's office that significant merit was seen in the inspector-general of biosecurity's independent review into BMSB, particularly recommendations pertaining to an increase in the staffing cap to support resourcing of entry assessment and inspection groups.

"FTA's position is that an increase in cost recovery would be appropriate with close industry engagement to ensure that funds are appropriately utilised and directed to personnel and systems enhancements," Mr Zalai said ... read more

Containerchain Notification system performance issues resolved 

Containerchain has confirmed that the Notification system performance issues experienced on 1 August 2019 were resolved as of commencement of business 2 August 2019. The disruptions were the result of Containerchain migrating the industry to an updated version of the system. Containerchain have said that these updates will deliver significant efficiencies for customers and users, including a number of features requested by industry over recent years. We can confirm that the core issues were resolved within 24 hours and the system was fully operational by the morning of 2 August 2019. Containerchain has expressed its apologies for the inconvenience caused and is continuing to work with its customers, users and industry stakeholders to resolve any subsequent issues remaining. 

Containerchain thanks everyone for their patience as they continue to assist the industry in bringing digital solutions to the supply chain.

Industry workshops for LCL/FAK Process

In preparation for the 2019-20 BMSB season, the Department of Agriculture will be hosting Industry information workshops in Melbourne on 5 August and in Sydney on 6 August for those involved with importing or handling LCL/FAK consignments that require increased intervention during the 2019-20 BMSB risk season. Master consolidators, freight forwarders, importers, customs brokers, biosecurity industry participants, stevedores, wharf operators and treatment providers are encouraged to attend. The workshops will also have teleconference facilities available for those unable to attend in person. Industry members are asked to register which workshop they wish to attend, and if via teleconference through the departments BMSB webpage.

Weekly Market Commentary
Global equities continued to lose ground, to close a week of serious losses, triggered by the ramping up of the US/China 'Trade War'.

The US announced the imposition of a further 10% in tariffs, on the balance of $300 Billion of Chinese exports, to the USA.

This has triggered a major hit to equities, bonds and currencies.

The flow-on effect of the trade war, is the fear of the impact on global growth, explaining the hit to Oil prices and Bond Yields.

President Trump announced some positive trade news, that counter some of the losses in US agriculture, with a trade deal over US Beef exports to the EU.

He pranked the press corps that the EU had agreed to a 25% tariff on Mercedes and BMW, which brought laughter after he outed to the joke. ... read more
