FTA and WISTA sell-out the Women in Logistics forum |
|
Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) and the Women's International Shipping & Trading Association (WISTA) co-hosted its annual "Women in Logistics" forum at the Novotel Sydney Airport on 21 August 2019. A sell-out event with attendees inspired and entertained with addresses from My Therese Blank (Oceania Customer Service Director, Maersk Line), Dannielle Yannopoulos (Regional Commander, NSW – Australian Border Force), Danielle Reid (General Manager, Eclipse Couriers) and Diana Tapp (CEO, World Class Teams). The industry is currently undergoing enormous changes with vertical expansion of offerings at many levels of the supply chain. This gave even greater context for the presentations on learning agility and how to prosper in the ever-changing professional world of international trade and freight logistics. Our presenters shared insights from their personal careers and life learnings. Thank you to Michael Bouari (CEO 1-Stop) for his major sponsorship opening address and to Insync Personnel and Eclipse Couriers for their sponsorship. A special note of appreciation is also extended to the WISTA annual sponsors HFW Australia (Platinum Sponsor) Victoria International Container Terminal – VICT; Wallenius Wilhelmsen Ocean; DP World (Gold Sponsors) Mediterranean Shipping Company - MSC; Swire; Colin, Biggers & Paisley; Fremantle Ports; NTI (Silver Sponsors); Flint Lawyers (Bronze Sponsor) and Freight & Trade Alliance – FTA; ASCI (Association Partners) Most of all, thank you to all those that attended as this was all about you.... bringing us together to support each other.

"Victorian Government has now officially commenced the review into Pricing and Access at the Port of Melbourne. APSA will be providing evidence to the review and will continue to work with Freight Victoria in protecting the interests of Victoria's importers, exporters and port users. In addition, a contingent of APSA and FTA members met with the Hon. Andrew Constance (NSW Minister for Transport, Roads and Ports) to call for a similar enquiry in NSW. APSA asked the Minister to consider intervention in container terminal landside pricing, as well as raising several other transport and freight policy opportunities."

FINANCE REPORT
Weekly Market CommentaryEquity markets plunged again overnight, to close the week, after a series of tweets from President Trump. Trump vented big time on twitter, in response to added Chinese tariffs, he ordered US business 'out of China'! US Share markets plummeted in response. Federal Reserve Chairman Powell was also the brunt of the Trump tweet-war. Trump tweeted, 'who is our bigger enemy, Jay Powell or Chairman Xi'? Earlier China had announced further tariffs on US exports, poking the bear, and Trump's response was emphatic. He called for all US Manufacturing companies to leave China! His response was a sledgehammer.
