Deregulation Taskforce

In July 2019, the Prime Minister tasked the Assistant Minister to the Prime Minister, the Hon. Ben Horton MP, with revitalising our regulatory reform and deregulation agenda by establishing the new Deregulation Taskforce.

Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) and the Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA) had an opportunity to meet with the Taskforce last week and will continue to engage with them closely.

The Taskforce will develop and recommend solutions to lower the cost of regulation while retaining the benefits. Initial focus areas include reducing regulatory burden on food manufacturers.

ACROSS BORDERS
What future for Vehicle Booking Systems (VBS)?
Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) and the Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA) were proud to feature Neil Chambers, Director and Founder of Container Transport Alliance Australia (CTAA), in the Spring 2019 edition of Across Borders. CTAA is a leading representative group of transport operators and other stakeholders in the container logistics chain.

Contact us to showcase your business or service via a member profile, thought leadership contribution or advertising via Across Borders and our associated media.
"No current VBS is a "demand / supply" system.  Instead, the systems require container transport operators (CTOs) to compete for container slots once they are "dropped" (allocated by the stevedore at set times)."

Congratulations to Menzies Aviation Australian Cargo Business

Menzies Aviation's Australian Cargo business has made the shortlist for the finals of the annual Pride of Ground Handling Awards for Best Cargo Handling Operation. The Ground Handling Awards are this year held in Amsterdam on 5th November and Menzies Aviation Australia are one of six finalists, including the likes of SATS (Singapore, Changi Airport) and WFS (JFK Intl Airport, New York).

Beau Paine said, "It's a tremendous feat to make it as a finalist against global hub operations. Our nomination to be considered the Best Cargo Handling Operation, was primarily based on our customer focused service offerings including; bespoke livestock handling - with modified equipment and processes, direct trucking from airport – improving freight industry collection times and decreasing congestion on airport, best in class cargo security offerings – x-ray, electromagnetic detection and guarding, innovative e-learning kiosks for customers – ensuring all drivers operate safely and securely in and around our terminals, and our continued focus on our people to deliver exceptional customer service to airlines and freight forwarders."

Andrew Christie Consulting releases "BIERS" app

Last week Andrew Christie Consulting released their App "BIERS" to a test group of 12.1 Approved Arrangements. This app will streamline the lodgement of fumigations undertaken for imported cargo.

After initial testing the App will be available to all 12.1 fumigation AA to lodge their documentation to have treatments cleared by the Department of Agriculture. This is the first step towards electronic clearances of goods requiring biosecurity treatment prior to release. The App removes the need for fumigation companies to manually write out Release of Fumigation forms then scanning and emailing them to the department for release.

If you are a 12.1 AA and would like to explore the options this new App provides, please email andrew@andrewchristieconsulting.com.au

Weekly Market Commentary
Markets gave up further ground, as the US/China trade negotiations came into focus. Chinese negotiators cut short their US trip and sent the market into despair. Chinese negotiators were scheduled to tour US agriculture producers, but abruptly cancelled and went home. US equities closed the week on this note of negativity. The 'risk-on' trade boosted the Dollar, with the EUR hitting 1.1020, while the GBP retreated to 1.2475.. ... read more
