Customs argues for a completely different approach to tariff classification
Earlier this month the solicitors for the Comptroller-General of Customs appeared before 5 judges of the High Court to make submissions about the correct tariff classification of vitamins (Click here for the transcript).

The arguments put forward by Customs represent radical departures from the approach to tariff classification that has been previously adopted by customs brokers, Customs and the Administrative Appeals Tribunal.

To view a detailed commentary prepared by Russell Wiese (Principal, Hunt & Hunt Lawyers) - please click here

Russell will be discussing this case in detail at the upcoming Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) Legal Forums (refer below for registration details) and we will update the industry once a decision is handed down by the High Court.

My Cargo Stinks! Stink Bugs, and other pests; the Marine Insurance Ramifications for policy coverage and recoveries.

We are presently in the 2019/2020 Brown marmorated stink bug (BMSB) season and now have another unexpected threat - this week a consignment of motor vehicles has been reported as being refused entry into Australia due to the presence of the rare heath snail.

Are you ready to face the challenges of such biosecurity risks?

This presentation through practical examples will demonstrate the issues arising for policy indemnity and subrogated recoveries when a consignment is contaminated by stink bugs, snails or other pests resulting in a vessel being ordered not to call into Australian waters.
The presention is by Maurice Lynch, Special Counsel Mills Oakley - 12pm AEDT TODAY (Tuesday 29 October 2019) - Register HERE

IT'S ALL ABOUT THE PEOPLE. PEOPLE
Thank you once again to James Cotis (Principal Logical Insurance Brokers) for his commentary on how key pereson life insurance can protect your capital and revenue in the Spring 2019 edition of Across Borders
The Human Asset is Your Greatest Asset

Most SMEs take out insurance cover to protect tangible assets such as plant, equipment, vehicles and buildings.

However, it is an undeniable fact that the greatest asset to a business is the intellectual capital and personal effort by people, and in particular, key personnel.

It is this human asset that - through initiative, drive, skill, specialist knowledge and ingenuity - can actively generate profits for the business.
