Patrick announce increases in Infrastructure Surcharges - differentied charges introduced for import and export

Friday, February 7, 2020
Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) and the Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA) have received advice today that their Infrastructure Surcharge, now referred to as a "Landside Access & Terminal Ancillary Charges", will increase effective Monday, 9 March 2020.

The official Patrick notice is available HERE

It is interesting to note that the charges, for the first time, have a differentiation between import and export.

Michael Jovicic (Chief Executive Officer, Patrick) justified this policy by stating "This approach recognises the significant challenges currently being faced by our exporters from drought and bushfires."

This is also no doubt also in response to our advocacy for reform where we have highlighted the impacts, particularly affecting exporters with high volume / low value commodities.

While the increases are significant across Patrick's container terminals nationally, it is interesting note a net reduction in this charge through the Port of Melbourne for our exporters.

Following our notice on 31 January 2020, FTA / APSA will continue engagement with the Victorian government and again, has an opportunity to meet with the NSW Productivity Commissioner next Friday, 14 February 2020.

As always, we will keep members up to date with pertinent developments.
