Last night, Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) received an encouraging response from the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) Assistant Commissioner to our advocacy on the definition of turnover - please refer to our submissions Cash Boost / JobKeeper

"I appreciate the pressure faced by your membership and we are working through this as quickly as we can ... we are working to develop something that can be applied by you and your members to the various arrangements in the sector, and to address both the aggregated turnover for Cash Flow Boost and GST turnover for JobKeeper.

Tariff classification and TCOs – updates from the High Court and Full Federal Court
Over the past two months, two important Court judgements have been delivered that impact customs broker compliance in dealing with tariff classification and TCO applications. - High Court Pharm-A-Care decision – this case concerned the classification of vita-gummies – food versus medicament. However, the case has wider implications and provides guidance on general classification principles.
- Full Federal Court Alstom TCO decision – this case considered whether for the purpose of assessing a TCO application, a manned train is substitutable for a driverless train. The Full Federal Court decision is important for any customs broker that assists clients with TCO applications.
