THE WEEK IN REVIEW
ONE WEEK REMAINS TO LODGE AN APPLICATION FOR DEFERRED GST - the ATO advise that it only takes 3/4 days to be up and running - we encourage our freight forwarder and customs broker members to bring this opportunity to the attention of importer clients, noting the short remaining time this month to lodge an application for DGST - refer HERE
COVID-19 FINANCIAL RELIEF MEASURES - INTERNATIONAL TRADE AND AVIATION SECTOR - we have highlighted the need for support for the aviation industry including air cargo terminal operators, specialist transport operators, freight forwarders and customs brokers - we will listen to this weeks' announcements from the Treasurer with interest – refer HERE
PRESENTING TO GOVERNMENT - following our submission to the Inquiry into the Implications of the COVID-19 Pandemic for Australia's Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade, we have accepted an invitation to present at a public hearing next week (30 July 2020).

As well as our ongoing focus on eradicating stevedore-imposed Infrastructure Surcharges and shipping competition matters, we will address the above referenced advocacy for financial relief measures in line with our supplementary submission – refer HERE
CONSOLIDATED TABLE OF NATIONAL INFRASTRUCTURE SURCHARGES available HERE (FTA / APSA MEMBER LOGIN REQUIRED)
COVID-19 VICTORIAN FREIGHT LOGISTICS UPDATE - available HERE. Hopefully the Victorian restrictions have the desired result as much uncertainty exists in terms of further esclation of measures - for further detail on FTA / APSA advocacy in the event of Stage 4 restrictions, please refer HERE
DP WORLD AUSTRALIA INDUSTRIAL ACTION - following last weeks' weather events, port / landside congestion and vessel schedule alterations (not to mention a global pandemic), we can now add industrial action into the mix - refer HERE (FTA / APSA MEMBER LOGIN REQUIRED)
CLIMATE CHANGE AUTHORITY - FTA / APSA have been acknowledged for our contribution a new research report, Economic recovery, resilience and prosperity after the coronavirus. The report identifies measures that could contribute to a 'triple-win' economic stimulus package in response to the impacts of COVID-19. "Hydrogen is also an input to the production of ammonia, which has significant potential as a transport fuel, including for shipping." - more to follow in the Spring 2020 edition of Across Borders.
THE FUTURE OF AUSTRALIA POST'S SERVICE DELIVERY - FTA is the secretariat to the E-Commerce Reference Group (ECRG) comprising major marketplaces Alibaba, e-Bay and Amazon. In a formal submission to the current Senate Inquiry "The Future of Australia Post's Service Delivery", the ECRG acknowledged that the future of Australia Post's service delivery is critical in terms of impacts on its workforce, businesses customers and support to the Australian community - REFER HERE
FEATURE ARTICLE - WINTER 2020 ACROSS BORDERS
Assisting Australian Exporters get to their Customers
Sal Milici (Head of Border and Biosecurity - FTA / APSA) interviewed Michael Byrne (International Freight Coordinator General of IFAM) for the Winter 2020 edition of Across Borders to get some invaluable insights into this support mechanism for Australian exporters - available HERE.

IFAM has since been boosted with an additional $240 million to facilitate the program through to February 2021. In even better news, the types of export shipments now eligible for support has been expanded.
As mentioned above, we are delighted to present to members this exclusive opportunity to host Michael who will provide more information on how non IFAM panel members can access this important scheme.
