SPONSOR OF THE WEEK

DirectPay: A new optional payment solution by 1-Stop
DirectPay allows cargo owners & freight forwarders the option to pay DP World's Terminal Access Charge and Patrick's Landside Charge prior to the container being received or released from the terminal. Where DirectPay is used, transport operators will no longer need to make payment of these fees saving on additional administrative costs cascading down the supply chain  - read more

Friday 5 February 2021 - PLACES NOW AVAILABLE!!

NATIONAL FREIGHT AND SUPPLY CHAIN STRATEGY - ANNUAL REPORT

We last week received acknowledgement from the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications for our contribution to the National Freight and Supply Chain Strategy and advice that Infrastructure and Transport Ministers endorsed the first annual progress report for the strategy which highlights Australia's freight network performance over the last 12 months.

We note a statement by the independent Freight Industry Reference Panel (including close FTA / APSA collaborators and Across Borders contributors, Nicole Lockwood and Brett Charlton), encouraging governments and industry to leverage best practice examples identified in the report, and to ensure accurate, timely and comparable data is gathered to measure freight movements through supply chains across jurisdictional boundaries and transport modes.  A copy of the report is available HERE
THE CURVE OF CONFUSION
Thank you once again to BRETT CHARLTON (Chair - Tasmanian Logistics Committee) for his commentary in the Spring 2020 edition of Across Borders.
Equipment and space shortages in various ports, industrial action, weather, increased infrastructure surcharges, maddening upward curves (everything has a curve now) of import freight rates mixed with the day to day contemplation of "what does this lockdown level in this area mean" is a whirlpool of complexity that has to be navigated because freight forwarders, transport companies and related supply chain services are now the superheroes of the planet – but Darth Vader and his mates are standing on every corner at the moment just throwing bad voodoo in front of everything.
