WEEK IN REVIEW
VICT WARNS OF SERIOUS INDUSTRIAL ACTION
Victoria International Container Terminal (VICT) is facing imminent industrial disruption in the face of a union agenda to force Australia's first fully automated container terminal to comply with "industry standards" by adopting the incompatible hours, manning and overtime conditions that govern the manually operated terminals around Australia.- READ MORE

COMMENTARY: The start of the Protected Industrial Action at VICT could be similar to what we experienced in Port Botany last year with severe vessel congestion within the port causing extensive interruptions within the NSW supply chain and wider economy.

Similar actions in the Port of Melbourne will no doubt cause the same harm within the Victorian economy that's still trying to recover from last year's COVID lockdown.
MASSIVE INCREASE IN SURCHARGES - THIS TIME HUTCHISON
Hutchison Ports have published a list of Landside and Storage charges that will be effective 15 March 2021 at both their Sydney and Brisbane terminals

Members will note particular attention to the increase in both Infrastructure fees and Vehicle Booking fees for both terminals.

MASSIVE INCREASES IN SYDNEY ... AND STILL NO GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION

52.93% increase in its Infrastructure Levy (from $88.83 per laden container to $135.85); and
58.33% increase in its Public Appointments (slot booking) Fee (from $12 to $19 per slot).
