WEEK IN REVIEW
EXTENSION OF THE INTERNATION FREIGHT ASSISTANCE MECHANISM
Post last week's National Cabinet meeting, the Prime Minister announced that the Commonwealth will extend additional support through IFAM - READ MORE

In response to the FTA / APSA advocacy, this outcome aligns with one of the seven key recommendations in our submission to the Productivity Commission's Inquiry into Vulnerable Supply Chains.

RECOMMENDATION 7 (extension of IFAM funding) – the Federal Government should allocate additional funds to maintain the International Freight Assistance Mechanism (IFAM) and / or similar financial relief measures to support the air cargo supply chain sector until the end of 2023 (at minimum), with actual allocation of funds subject to periodic reviews pending the return of international passenger flight services.

FTA / APSA looks forward to ongoing engagement with Austrade to ascertain further detail about the extension and to support to freight forwarders responsible for IFAM funding applications. Whilst Austrade has done an exceptional job to date to implement and and administer the scheme as a timely response to the pandemic-imposed operating conditions, member feedback has indicated a significant opportunirty exists to improve processes.
PROGRESS ON INDUSTRY DEMANDS FOR CRITICAL VACCINE ACCESS FOR HIGH-RISK ESSENTIAL WORKERS
The joint media campaign launched on Wednesday June 9 by Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA), the Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA) and the Australian Logistics Council (ALC), has had a number of responses from State governments.

WA State Health Minister
Queensland  State Health Minister
FTA / APSA  were also encouraged by the commentary from the National cabinet meeting. Monday June 28, in which they have agreed to review prioritisation of high-risk supply chain workers for vaccination with the Australian Health Protection Principle Committee (AHPPC).

Whilst welcoming the announcement Paul Zalai, Co-founder / Director of Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA)  / Secretariat - Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA) said " given the ever changing developments / outbreaks with the COVID-19 pandemic it is essential that our critical supply chain workers receive vaccination to maintain the supply of goods into / out of Australia"
