Australian Sea Cargo Operational Highlights
Global Outlook - summary

Russia-Ukraine situation continues to place considerable stress on the global economy

Vessel delays and port congestion in USA and Northern Europe continue to create cause for concern particularly at the ports of Bremerhaven, Hamburg, and Antwerp.

Currently there are 17-20 vessel at anchorage awaiting berthing at the port of Bremerhaven

As congestion worsens carriers are looking to avoid hot spots in China by omitting Shanghai

Shipments volumes from Shanghai remain stable although still down 22% when compared to March 2022 pre lockdown

Uncertainty of the exact duration of lockdowns in China makes it unclear what the overall impact will be on global supply chains

Whilst we have seen some soften of sea freight rates over costs remain at historical highs

Carriers continued adjustment and review of their BAF- Bunker prices due to significant rises in global fuel prices

World Container Index as calculated by Drewry as of 05 May 2022 is USD $7,727.24 per 40FT container
