Cost of reform, low-hanging fruit and the missing link


Sal Milici, General Manager Trade Policy & Operations | Freight & Trade Alliance, recently spoke at the GreenPort Congress on implanting sustainability within the international logistics chain 



 

"The missing link is that of landside logistics. Whilst not strictly part of the international move, the door-to-port and port-todoor legs are areas where the path to decarbonisation is facing many challenges."

THE WEEKLY TIMES - Biosecurity fees to rise in bid to recover costs

Freight and Trade Alliance director Paul Zalai said sustainable funding and investment "are clearly required to strengthen biosecurity measures".

He supports the department's proposed expansion of approved arrangements with industry that aims to quicken clearance time and reduce supervision and costs.

"Merit is seen in a differentiated model whereby importers who can mitigate in part or in whole the biosecurity risk would attract a lower level of cost recovery," he said.  READ MORE

Tour de Brisbane - The Common Good

Anthony (Tony) Vinson, from White Knight Global Logistics, competed in the Tour de Brisbane on Sunday 2 April to raise funds for the The Common Good (The Prince Charles Hospital Foundation), a cause that is close to Tony's heart. Tony is a regular in this ride and any support our industry can provide, albeit post event, would be greatly appreciated . 

Tony completed the 80 klm section of the race in 3hr 25min.

Paperless Truck Arrival at ECPs Roundtable

Sal Milici, General Manager Trade Policy & Operations at Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) attended a roundtable on 3 April hosted by the Victorian Department of Transport for industry to receive an update on the paperless truck arrival trial. The results, as expected, showed improved truck servicing times. Unfortunately NOT ALL shipping lines have embraced this change, operational in Fremantle for many years, and industry and the department will continue to seek their support to improve the supply chain for ALL participants. 

DP World Terminal Outage - Brisbane (Wed 5 April)

The following advice has been received from DPW Brisbane
Pleases note that Terminal operations will be offline between 07:00 - 13:00 05/04.

Please note that last slot is 06:00 for In-gates to be closed from 07:00.

Please take note of this outage, please do not send drivers to the terminal between these times Wednesday, 05/04- 07:00-13:00 as the gates will be closed due to operations being offline for the duration of the outage.

Farmers Connect From Paddock to Port for Bumper Export Season

Millions of tons of grain from farmers across regional NSW continue to be transported via Port Kembla to reach global markets as the state enjoys another bumper export season.
 
NSW Ports CEO Marika Calfas said 3.4 million tons of grain had been exported from Port Kembla to international markets in the past financial year and is set to continue this year.  READ MORE

In positive news for Australian airfreight exporters, passenger and cargo demand is beginning to ease and input costs show marginal improvements

As of 27 March 2023, US cargo capacity has decreased, with the loss of a combined 17 weekly flights from Melbourne and Sydney into Los Angeles, Houston, and San Francisco.

Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) has received advice from the Australian Border Force (ABF) that they are currently conducting a review of the additional licence conditions attached to a customs broker licence.

Expansion of Duty Deferral Benefit for Australian Trusted Traders 

The Australian Border Force (ABF) is expanding the Australian Trusted Trader (ATT or Trusted Traders) Duty Deferral benefit to become Duty Deferral Plus. Duty Deferral Plus will further reduce regulatory burden and improve cash flows for eligible ATTs.  READ MORE
