FTA / APSA / GSF - IN THE MEDIA

DCN - The cargo intervention model streamlined

Border authorities are looking to revamp the way they deal with cargo at the border, and Paul Zalai of FTA and APSA has some suggestions

"Assuming the cost recovery will be collected from importers via the import processing charge, FTA/APSA see merit in the introduction of a differential (lower) payment from Australian Trusted Traders and green-lane biosecurity participants that presumably require a lesser level of intervention."

The LoadStar - Australia cracks down on cocaine smuggling, with 100 companies in its sights

Mr Zalai suggested the ABF could limit the ability of customs brokerages to pay import duty, GST and cost recovery charges on behalf of client importers, thereby requiring them to "provide financial banking data direct to the ABF".

He explained: "This data in turn can be used for risk assessment and identity verification, significantly reducing the risk of 'piggyback' consignments."
