Port of Brisbane - Marine Pilot Industrial Action

Tuesday, August 22, 2023

Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) and the Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA) would like to update members in relation to the announcement made previously by the Australian Maritime Officers Union (AMOU) that marine pilots at the Port of Brisbane would stop work for 24 hours from Thursday 24 August at 00:01.

After weeks of unsuccessful negotiations at the Fair Work Commission, the pilots are engaging in industrial action against their employer, Poseidon Sea Pilots (PSP).

Following discussions with representatives from both the AMOU & PSP, Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) can reveal that further meetings between all stakeholders took place today with both parties hopeful of an eleventh-hour resolution.

Whilst the threat of industrial action still remains, representatives of PSP have suggested that contingencies have been put in place to ensure minimal impact to operations should industrial action proceed.
