Australian Competition and Consumer Commission
Impact on competition of vertical integration by shipping lines

On Friday 8 September 2023, FTA / APSA received advice from the ACCC seeking feedback direct from FTA / APSA members about their experience with shipping lines, including those who also provide Freight forwarding | Road transport and Rail transport.

Your responses will assist the ACCC understand shipping and freight markets, including any impact on competition from vertical integration. Read more and complete the survey HERE

Proposed changes to Customs Broker Licensing conditions

The Australian Border Force (ABF) has been undertaking a review of conditions on customs broker licenses. Whilst the initial submission by FTA, incorporating previously supplied member feedback, has been incorporated into the revised summary more needs to be done. Australia joins the Asian Shippers Alliance

The Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA) is delighted to have been accepted as Australia's representative to the prestigious and influential Asian Shippers Alliance (ASA). Having been accepted into the ASA, APSA / FTA now have a unique opportunity to share experiences with member nations from Indonesia, Thailand, Korea, Macau, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka and Malaysia. READ MORE

Western Container Services - Site Visit

Paul Zalai said it was a fantastic opportunity to catch up with Alan Campbell, Craig Lennon and Rick Johnson from Western Container Services at their facility to chat about  AA14.4 Rural Tailgate Inspections, Refrigerated Container Storage and BMSB Fumigation.

With the BMSB season now upon us it was a good opportunity to see first hand how these treatments are managed and get some feedback on how the 14.4 arrangement is being used by customs brokers and importers.

CONTINUED BIOSECURITY COMPETENCY (CBC) - OPEN NOW!!!

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) has issued Industry Advice Notice 122/2023 with key dates and information for the 2023-24 CBC.

The CBC pre-recorded webinar will be made available on the department's Learnhub platform from Wednesday 6 September 2023 and must be completed by Wednesday 18 October 2023.

Please NOTE it is essential that you log in and set up your Learnhub account prior the session goes live and  complete the topic "Introduction to Learnhub" before September's scheduled activity.

 


MANDATORY CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (CPD) MODULE

The Australian Border Force (ABF) have advised under the updated Australian Customs Notice No. 2023/23 that the mandatory CPD module is now available for completion.

ALL licensed customs brokers must complete this mandatory module by 31 March 2024

The Department has advised industry that the Cargo Snapshot is currently under review for suitability and context.

While this review is undertaken the distribution of the snapshot will be paused.

We are not long into the season and we have already seen the start of offshore treatment providers having their status reviewed.
