As members would be aware from our member update from 24 May 2024, Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) has been advocating for a delay to the proposed 1 July 2024 implementation of the new cost recovery charge for biosecurity clearance of declared low value goods (valued at AUD $1,000 or less) – further detail about the proposed charge and collection methodology is available HERE
As a direct result of the FTA approach to the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) on 22 May 2024, a special meeting of DAFF and industry representatives was convened this afternoon (31 May 2024).
In summary, FTA re-stated concerns (as previously raised) and joined a broader industry consensus for a review of alternate models.
It is understood that these concerns, and a call for a deferment of implementation beyond 1 July 2024, will be escalated to DAFF to their executive and potentially for Ministerial consideration.
FTA will continue to keep members up to date on developments.Paul Zalai - Director FTA | Secretariat APSA | Director GSF
