Modernising and Strengthening Customs Licensing : Proposed Reforms 2024 Overview

The Australian Border Force (ABF) has conducted extensive consultation in developing the proposed amendments to the Customs Act 1901 (Customs Act) and the Customs Licensing Charges Act 1997 (Charges Act) to modernise and strengthen compliance within customs licensing.

The Australian Border Force has stated that the proposed legislative amendments are pursuant to Industry needs and form part of the Government's Simplified Trade System (STS) agenda, which aims to deliver a simpler, more effective and sustainable cross-border trade environment and have made the following reference:
