FTA engage with NSW Govt on Sydney Gateway 


Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) and Container Transport Alliance Australia (CTAA) met with Transport for NSW executives on 31 July 2024 in relation to the Sydney Gateway opening scheduled for 1 September 2024 - a briefing document is available HERE (FTA / APSA MEMBER LOGIN REQUIRED)

FTA / APSA - TRAINING & EVENTS

2024-2025 FTA ONLINE CPD & CBC TRAINING PACKAGES

FTA offers Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and Continued Biosecurity Competency (CBC) training online for the customs broker licencing period 1 April to 31 March each year. The cost of an online training package is $150 (excl. gst) for member organisations with bulk discounts available on a sliding scale.

Licensed customs brokers not employed by a corporate FTA member, can purchase an Individual Membership which includes online CPD & CBC training for the cost of only $300 (excl. gst) per customs broker licensing period.

BIOSECURITY

Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB) Season - Industry Information Sessions

FTA is a member of the National Biosecurity Strategy (NBS) Implementation Committee (NIC) and its working group contributing to the plan.

Key outcomes:

  • The NBS provides a 10-year roadmap for Australia's biosecurity system. A national approach is critical in developing a shared purpose to ensure Australia's biosecurity system remains strong in a constantly changing and increasingly complex global environment.
  • Australia's first NBS Action Plan (Action Plan) outlines the initial 52 activities that will be delivered between 2024 and 2026 as part of the NBS.
    • There will be future Action Plans to deliver the NBS.
  • The Action Plan has been released for public consultation (closing at 15 August 2024) in order to progress finalising the Action Plan.

Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB) Season - Industry Information Sessions

Last week the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) conducted two industry sessions focusing on the upcoming Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB) seasonal measures.

GST on low value goods

When multiple low value goods are shipped to Australia in one shipment, they will be taxed at the Australian border. For example, a customer purchased two necklaces from a business in the United Kingdom for A$750 each, and paid an additional A$50 for them to be shipped to Australia in one delivery. As the customs value of these items is $A1,550, the business does not charge GST since the goods will be taxed at the border
