FTA / APSA Joint Submission - Senate Select Committee Accepts Submission Addressing the Tasmanian Freight Equalisation Scheme (TFES)

The Tasmanian Freight Equalisation Scheme (TFES) is an essential support mechanism for Tasmanian Traders. A Select Committee on the Tasmanian Freight Equalisation Scheme has been established to inquire into, review and report on aspects of the scheme with the final report scheduled to be released on or before the 26th November 2024.  

Tasmanian regional representative for Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) and Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA), Brett Charlton, under his consultancy firm "The Ship – Consulting" in conjunction with FTA/APSA and the Tasmanian Agricultural Productivity Group (TAPG) have written a submission for consideration as part of the Select Committee review process. Brett Charlton sits on the board of the Tasmanian Agricultural Productivity Group and was privileged to present a physical copy of the submission to the Chairperson of the Committee, Senator Tammy Tyrrell as well as provide lengthy commentary with the support of the post farm gate agricultural sector (represented at the board meeting by members of Tasmanian Agricultural Productivity Group) in Longford, Tasmania recently.

The submission was prepared with the excellent support of Tom Jensen (Freight & Trade Alliance) as well as stake holders that use the scheme from various sectors of the logistics industry in Tasmania. The focus of the submission is directed to the significant increases in the freight task across Bass Strait with comprehensive data sets along with considerations to sustainable practices and the importance of the scheme to the Tasmanian trading community.
