Paul Zalai, Director and Co-founder of the Freight & Trade Alliance and Tom Jensen ( Head of International Freight & Logistics - FTA) caught up with David Goodwin (Director at Interport Cargo) last week. It was great to hear about how Interport in Brisbane is going from strength to strength. 

Paul Zalai and Tom Jensen had the great pleasure to meet with Joanne Demene, Queensland Branch Manager for DSV - Global Transport and Logistics.last week. 

DSV, the powerhouse they have become globally, is on the verge of another significant milestone with the keys soon to be handed over for their brand-new, purpose-built facility at the Port of Brisbane

Brisbane wraps up the FTA Christmas Networking events

What a fantastic evening for the Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) QLD Christmas Networking Event last week, held at the iconic BrewDog by the Brisbane River. It was wonderful to reconnect with so many colleagues, friends, and new faces, sharing laughter, stories, and great conversations. The lively atmosphere and great conversations in the room highlighted the strong connections and collaboration within our network.

Australia's Carbon Leakage Review  - Submission

Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) have received extensive member feedback on this issue and have included member concerns into their formal submission to the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEW) in response to Australia's Carbon Leakage Review


Licensed customs brokers are vital to integrating a Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) into existing trade systems. Their expertise in classification, valuation, and compliance ensures effective management of border regulations.READ MORE

Giant African Snails detected at Botany

Wonderful coverage by Emma Alsop of Grain Central in relation to this weeks Giant African Snail detection at Port Botany.

Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) are working positively with Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry to explore improved communication channels

FTA General Manager – Trade Policy and Operations Sal Milici said this incident demonstrated that the system was working as intended.as an outbreak of GAS "would have been devastating" for some agricultural sectors and the environment.

 

"The Giant African Snail is one of the most damaging pests around," Mr Milici said.READ MORE

Christmas & New Year Operating Hours as at 10 December 2024

Freight & Trade Alliance have been collating data from various sources in relation to operating hours for service providers, shipping lines and government agencies over the coming Christmas / New Year period.

The information can be seen at the below link, however we remind all members to stay alert to notices from Containerchain and OneStop as well as monitoring the various web sites for changes to what has already been received. This list will be updated as more information comes to hand.

MAERSK - 2024/2025 Public Holidays and Free Time
Maersk will offer extended import and export demurrage & detention freetime during Public Holidays. This concession only applies where Public Holidays fall within a customer's agreed freetime period and in such cases, the freetime will be extended to include these days.

FTA / APSA - TRAINING & EVENTS

2024-2025 FTA ONLINE CPD & CBC TRAINING PACKAGES

FTA offers Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and Continued Biosecurity Competency (CBC) training online for the customs broker licencing period 1 April to 31 March each year. The cost of an online training package is $150 (excl. gst) for member organisations with bulk discounts available on a sliding scale.

Licensed customs brokers not employed by a corporate FTA member, can purchase an Individual Membership which includes online CPD & CBC training for the cost of only $300 (excl. gst) per customs broker licensing period.

Australian Border Force (ABF) & Department of Fisheries & Forestry (DAFF) Mandatory CPD & CBC Modules

Customs Broker Licensing Period to 31 March 2025

DAFF - The DAFF Mandatory CBC Activity 24-25/01 (CPD0215) will go live on 17 February 2025 on the Department's Learnhub site. The assessment will be automatically made available on the FTA training platform "MYFTACPD"  under the 'Active" filter for FTA members that attended a 2024 CPD Border Compliance Program (complimentary) or for those that have purchased an online training package for the period ending 31 March 2025. You will be sent an email when the assessment has been uploaded for completion. The Assessment must be completed by Monday 17 March 2025.

Important:

DAFF have advised that the Mandatory CBC Activity 24-25/01 (CPD0215) will provide you with 
2 CPD Points in Stream A. Please ensure you take this into consideration when completing your 30 CPD points for the customs broker licencing period 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025.

Local deliveries to go solar as truck battery swapping station comes to Moorebank Intermodal

More electric trucks will be rolling out onto Sydney streets within weeks, following the completion of Janus Electric's first solar-powered Charge and Change Station at the Moorebank Intermodal Precinct.

"Freight demand is projected to rise by 34 per cent across NSW from 2021 to 2061. We're going to need more capacity, not less, which is why we're working on a plan with the freight industry to get us to net zero" .said NSW Minister for Transport - The Hon Jo Haylen. READ MORE

West Gate Tunnel Project Industry briefing information

West Gate Tunnel Project held an industry briefing on 14 November to provide information on recent and upcoming construction impacting heavy vehicle routes, and to give an update on how we're getting ready for the project to open in late 2025. It contains a summary of traffic management needed to deliver West Gate Tunnel Project work in late spring and early summer, and an overview of how we'll be engaging with industry next year to help businesses prepare for project opening – including upcoming events and reminders about West Gate Tunnel tolls.

ANL provide weekly service into the Pilbara

The ANL PAX Service is now sailing at a weekly frequency from Singapore to Pilbara.

The service operates over two loops and carries a mixture of containerised cargo, break bulk and project cargo up to 100 tonnes. With a direct call in the major hub of Singapore, the Pilbara dedicated loop has been enhanced, now connecting Singapore directly with Dampier and Port Hedland on a weekly basis. READ MORE

Air Cargo Demand up 9.8% in October 2024 

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has released data for October 2024 global air cargo markets showing continuing strong annual growth in demand. Total demand, measured in cargo tonne-kilometers (CTKs*), rose by 9.8% compared to October 2023 levels (10.3% for international operations) for a 15th consecutive month of growth. READ MORE (story credit IATA)
