Landside Port Charges

Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) and Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA) wish to highlight the recent release of the updated Landside Port Charges Index – January 2025 Update (LPCI) by NineSquared. This update to the previous LPCI provides further critical analyses into container freight landside charges across Australia's capital cities, offering transparency on changes in the supply chain landscape.

FTA/APSA continue to advocate for the federal government to introduce a Mandatory Code for Stevedore Landside Charges, overseen by an appropriate regulatory body. This approach aligns with the ACCC's recommendations and supports equitable outcomes for Australia's container freight supply chain.

The latest analysis by NineSquared further underscores the urgent need for regulation to ensure fairness and efficiency in the supply chain.READ MORE ( member log in required)

Red Sea Ceasefire & Developments - Insights & Operational Implications

Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) and Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA), as Australia's representative to the Global Shippers Forum (GSF), welcome the ceasefire agreement ratified on 19 January between Israel and Hamas. This development has since led Yemen's Houthi rebels to announce a phased cessation of hostilities against non-Israeli-linked shipping in the Red Sea.

FTA/APSA, in collaboration with GSF, continues to monitor these developments closely, advocating for the safety and interests of the seafarers. Recognising the dynamic nature of the situation, we aim to provide relevant updates and support members as circumstances evolve during this transitional period. READ MORE  ( member log in required)

FTA / APSA - OUT & ABOUT

A day in Fremantle

John Park, Head of Business Operations - FTA took some time last week to catch up with some members post the festive season and to see what this year holds. All in all feedback was positive although concerns are still there with fluctuating freight rates, blank sailings and ever increasing TACs and ECP fees. Interesting also to hear cargo volumes ex China down leading into CNY.
