FTA meet with new ABF Commissioner

Paul Zalai, Director, Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) and Craig Cowin, (Member Representative - Border & Biosecurity | FTA  met with Australian Border Force Commissioner Gavan Reynolds AO (pictured second from right) and Commander Ben Evans (pictured left) in a bi-lateral meeting in Canberra on Tuesday 4 March 2025.

While taking the opportunity to formally introduce the Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA) and Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA), the meeting importantly provided an opportunity for the Commissioner to outline his initial observations since being sworn in on 10 November 2024 and opportunities to modernise operations; both from a community protection and trade facilitation perspective. We are also grateful for the commitment from the Commissioner to provide the foreword for our next edition of Across Borders (annual report).- READ MORE

FTA / APSA - OUT & ABOUT

Container Transport Alliance Australia (CTAA) West Gate Tunnel Seminar

Neil Chambers - Director - CTAA

The best part of events is networking with members and hearing what is happening on the streets - thanks to Shanon Gould - Ocean Bridge (centre) and Greg Barison - E.E. Muir for chatting in the breaks

Sal Milici last week attended the CTAA West Gate Tunnel Seminar in Melbourne. It was a good opportunity to actively participate in topics such as, the Future use of the Melbourne Market site and the West Gate Tunnel Project.Sal also managed to catch up with Freight & Trade Alliance  (FTA) members Greg Barison and Shanon Gould to better understand how improved access may be offset by increased costs, and what that means for freight forwarders, customs brokers, and importers.

 International Women's Day

FTA was delighted to be a Partner with SCLAA in celebrating 2025 International Women's Day nationally and thank all the FTA members that attended these impressive events.

This was an opportunity to share unique insights of being a female within this vibrant and fast paced industry. The consensus was that industry has come a long way in advancing both diversity and inclusion within the workplace. We thank the tenacity of those that forged the way as female role models and look forward to positive equality and opportunity for all continuing on their journeys.

SCLAA - International Women's Day - NSW

Hosted by SCLAA 260 attendees enjoyed lunch at the NSW Parliament House which also celebrated International Women's Day.

Presentations from entrepreneur and Commercial Growth Strategist, Lisa Qui who encouraged everyone to not be afraid of failure, learn from it and to follow your passion for success. Maureen Jordan, Switzer Group encouraged everyone to grab opportunities as they come to you and ensure you are remain your authentic self in business.

The Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Women's Shelter (HKWS) were the recipients of the $15K raised on the day. Nick McArdie, Ambassador for HWKS highlighted the importance the community plays in stamping out violence in society. Having the discussion within your families and among your peers on how we should treat each other respectfully and call out violence. The room was speechless on hearing the personal story of one of the SCLAA members. A brave and private account of her families survival against inexplicable violence. A reminder to us all that violence can be hidden, but in front of our eyes. The question to ask is "Are you OK?"
