CUSTOMS BROKER CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (CPD) 
ONLY 6 DAYS TO GO - DUE DATE 31 MARCH 2025

 
A reminder to check you have completed your CPD & CBC training requirements for the customs broker licensing period ending 31 March 2025. A maximum of 12 points in Stream B only counts towards your total of 30 CPD points. 

To check your FTA CPD Attainment statement, log into
 MYFTACPD training platform, click on your name at the top right-hand side of the page/ Manage Account/FTA CPD Attainment Statement.

Note: The Mandatory Australian Border Force ABF CPD Module will provide 3 CPD Points in Stream B. This is completed directly on their platform and will not appear on the FTA Attainment Statement.  Please refer HERE for further details. Must be completed by 31 March 2025.

HOW TO ACCESS THE MYFTACPD TRAINING PLATFORM
 
Once logged into MYFTACPD training platform, courses can be found under "My Learning", "Active" where you can view course materials and complete the assessments. If you attended a 2024 face-to-face session or have purchased an online training package you should have received an email with navigation instructions and username.
 
If you have misplaced, wish to change/re-set or need to setup your password or retrieve your username, please use the "reset and recovery option" under "Trouble Logging In" - HERE 
 
Check junk email folder for recovery/reset emails then follow the prompts. The first time you go into the system you need to set up your password. 
Mandatory Continued Biosecurity Competency (CBC)
 
The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry 2024-2025 Mandatory CBC Activity 24-25/01 (CPD0215) interactive course should have been completed by 17 March 2025 on the Department's Learnhub platform and the assessment on the FTA training platform " MYFTACPD". 

If you were unable to complete the CBC activity and assessment please email 
aep.arrangements@aff.gov.au to discuss your personal circumstances.

Industry clients should make arrangements to have cargo cleared outside of these hours. However, EDI messages sent during this outage period stated above will queue and be processed once connectivity is restored. 

2025 SECTION 77G & APPROVED ARRANGEMENT FORUMS
 
By registering for this event, you will hear directly from Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF), Department of Home Affairs and Australian Border Force (ABF) senior officers in terms of current compliance activity and emerging reforms in managing Sec 77G Depot, RACA and Approved Arrangement facilities. Each session will be facilitated by Andrew Christie - Andrew Christie Consulting and chair of the Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) Biosecurity Treatment Provider Reference Group (BTPRG)

FTA ONLINE CPD & CBC TRAINING PACKAGES

FTA offers Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and Continued Biosecurity Competency (CBC) training online for the customs broker licencing period 1 April to 31 March each year. The cost of an online training package is $150 (excl. gst) for member organisations with bulk discounts available on a sliding scale.

Licensed customs brokers not employed by a corporate FTA member, can purchase an Individual Membership which includes online CPD & CBC training for the cost of only $300 (excl. gst) per customs broker licensing period.

FTA promotes Tom Jensen to executive role
As we execute our next phase of growth, we look forward to making a series of prominent announcements. To that end, we are delighted to announce the promotion of Tom Jensen to the full-time role of General Manager Freight Policy & Operations.

Importantly, Tom will work alongside Sal Milici (General Manager Trade Policy & Operations) to manage the ongoing FTA and APSA growth and industry lead on communications, operational support and advocacy.

Tom's elevation created a vacancy in the role of Head of International Freight & Logistics; we look forward to making the announcement of the new appointment upon their commencement next month and other important roles in our expanded team

Core Logistics - A True Family Business

Last week Sal Milici, General Manager Trade Policy & Operations - FTA | APSA met up with Daniel HoangAllen Hoang and James Hoang from Core Logistics a valued Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) member and a Melbourne-based transport company specialising in container moving services, shipping container storage, and reliable logistics solutions.

They spoke on the impact of rising port charges, the evolving regulatory landscape, and the opportunities and challenges of the West Gate Tunnel Project—particularly the significant additional costs that will be cascaded down to importers and exporters.

Always valuable to hear first hand insights from those on the ground, navigating these challenges daily.

FJT Logistics catch up in WA

John Park, Head of Business Operations - FTA, had the opportunity to catch up with Alessandro D'Orto, Director - FJT Logistics during his visit to Western Australia earlier this week.

A strong family business with national coverage, it was interesting to hear the history and Alessandro's views on the current market and where things may go this year

The Tour de Brisbane is on again Sunday 13 April 2025 and it will be Anthony's seventh year taking on the challenge of cycling 80 km's in and around the streets of Brisbane to raise funds for The Prince Charles Hospital Foundation, supporting life-changing organ transplantation research.

As part of ongoing air cargo security compliance, Qantas Freight has issued a timely reminder to industry about mandatory descriptor requirements on documentation. FTA/APSA is sharing this important message to help members avoid delays or rejections by ensuring AWBs and CSDs use clear, specific language in line with regulatory obligations. READ MORE

QF Compliance in Mandatory AWB & CSD Descriptors

Like other Pre-Loading Advance Cargo Information (PLACI) programs such as in the US and in Europe, this regulation mandates data reporting prior to departure from the last overseas port before arrival into Canada for all shipments travelling by air to/through Canada originating from a non-Canadian port. READ MORE
