Last Monday Sal Milici attended the opening of the new freight processing facility at Melbourne Avalon Airport — a welcome addition to Victoria's logistics landscape.

Great to catch up with FTA members from Menzies Aviation.Congratulations to Jacques Dumont and and all involved at Melbourne Avalon Airport on this important milestone for Victorian trade and logistics.

Safe Ships Safe Ports - Conference

Last week John Park and Amanda Bradfield were privileged to attend the Safe Ships Safe Ports Conference organised by Pilbara Ports at the amazing Optus Stadium -  around 780 maritime professionals from 16 countries came together to focus on this year's theme: Anchored in Safety.  

Common themes emerging from the forum included the importance of safety as non negotiable, seafarer wellbeing, and the need for continuous focus and attention across all port operations.

ATLC Perth event

A great event last week hosted by Darryl Dailsey on behalf of Lawrence Christoffelsz  from ATLC  bringing together importers, exporters and international trade professionals - John Park and Bianca Flint attended on behalf of FTA and caught up some FTA members - as  well as Brad Gosling from Export Finance Australia

Fremantle Ports - Catch up


Earlier this week John Park caught up with members of the commercial team at Fremantle Ports - they discussed the range of maintenance projects being undertaken across inner harbour berths, the impacts of the upcoming SailGP event as well as the Fremantle Traffic Bridge closure through 2026. FTA / APSA - TRAINING

MANDATORY ABF CPD MODULE
 
FTA has received confirmation from the Australian Border Force that the Mandatory ABF Module for the customs broker licensing period ending 31 March 2026 will be scheduled in January 2026 and will need to be completed by 31 March 2026. The Department will publish an ACN closer to the date with further details.


MANDATORY CBC ACTIVITY
Industry will be advised when the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries & Forestry (DAFF) has scheduled the Mandatory CBC Activity for the period ending 31 March 2026. FTA will advise further details to our members as soon as they have been published.

2025-2026 FTA ONLINE CPD & CBC TRAINING PACKAGES

FTA offers Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and Continued Biosecurity Competency (CBC) training online for the customs broker licencing period 1 April to 31 March each year. The cost of an online training package is $150 (excl. gst) for member organisations with bulk discounts available on a sliding scale. New content is now ready for your completion.

Licensed customs brokers not employed by a corporate FTA member, can purchase an Individual Membership which includes online CPD & CBC training for the cost of only $300 (excl. gst) per customs broker licensing period.

Employees of members who do not require CPD points or a formal certificate/attainment statement can access webinar/seminar recordings on our main website HERE (corporate member password protected).

OneStop and Lyttelton Port Company Strengthen Partnership to Advance Digital Operations in New Zealand

Pilbara ready to support clean energy conference hears

WESTERN Australia's Pilbara region is well-positioned to support the transition to clean energy in the maritime sector, a conference in Perth has heard.

 

Pilbara Ports chief executive Sam McSkimming told the 2025 Safe Ship Safe Ports Forum that "the Pilbara is the natural beachhead for global investment in maritime decarbonisation".

 

"The green corridor between the Pilbara and East Asia has the port infrastructure and the risk management experience as well as the access to renewable energy that positions it as a global frontrunner for clean marine fuels," Mr McSkimming told the conference.

Port of Brisbane commences autonomous container transfer R&D project

Over the next 12 months, Port of Brisbane Pty Ltd (PBPL) in partnership with Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and iMOVE Australia, will consider the regulatory, safety, technical, and security requirements of an ecosystem to

DP World will be closed from 0500-1400 30th October due to necessary terminal outages; DP have aligned 4 necessary outages and civil works together to ensure minimal effects are felt by the industry.

No slots will be available 0500hrs until 1400hrs.
GATES WILL BE SHUT AT 0500hrs.| 1400 ROAD RE-OPENS

Do not PRA, Manifest trucks or submit rail plans until advised to do so.

Messaging between 1-stop and terminal operation systems will be affected during this time.

Trade Data Updates Week Ending 28th October 2025

Exports star in Australian first half container trade

THE FIRST half of the 2025 calendar year saw Australian container volumes ratchet up by 0.9% compared to the prior year, according to figures from Container Trade Statistics. 

 

While imports continue to outdistance exports, it was the latter that registered 2.2% growth to 1,379,100 TEU (up 29,300 TEU) while imports rose by 0.4% to 1,976,100 TEU. The intra-Australasia trade dropped by 4.1%, according to CTS. READ MORE (story credit DCN)
