Friday, July 24, 2026

Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) General Manager – Freight Policy & Operations, Tom Jensen, appeared on 10 News+ with Carrie Greenbank to discuss the escalating security situation in the Red Sea following a series of recent vessel attacks attributed to Houthi rebels.

The segment examined the growing disruption to global shipping routes, with particular focus on the diversion of vessels away from the Suez Canal and the resulting pressure on transit times, freight costs and supply chain reliability.

Mr Jensen highlighted the significant implications for Australian importers and exporters, noting that increased voyage times, higher insurance premiums and rerouting via the Cape of Good Hope are contributing to broader cost pressures across the Australian economy.

The interview also explored the downstream effects on inflation, inventory management and trade competitiveness, as well as the need for continued monitoring of maritime security risks in key international shipping corridors.
