UPDATE - GST collection on low value imported goods

Rosie Cicchitti (Director – International and Cross – Border Indirect Tax, Australian Taxation Office) delivered a presentation to members on Friday 11 May 2018 in Melbourne at the Global Shippers Forum and ICHCA International Conference hosted by Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA), the Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA) and ICHCA Australia – further details are available HERE

FTA has continued liaison with the ATO and have received the following updated material: 
 

• Operators of electronic distribution platforms

• Re-deliverers

• Suppliers

• Merchants selling through an online marketplace

• Transporters or customs brokers

 
FTA has also received advice that the ATO is continuing their international engagement program – while not hosting any more open sessions as they have done in the past, the ATO is prepared to meet with businesses directly or deliver a short presentation to groups:

• Beijing on Monday 28 and Tuesday 29 May

• Hong Kong on Wednesday 30 and Thursday 31 May

• San Francisco on Monday 4 June and Tuesday 5 June

• New York on Thursday 7 June and Friday 8 June
