Infrastructure and Transport Minister appoints APSA as peak importer body under the Competition and Consumer Act

Thursday, March 21, 2019

We are pleased to advise that the Hon. Michael McComarck MP, Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development, and Deputy Prime Minister, has signed a Legislative Instrument designating the Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA) as the peak body for importers for the purposes of Part X of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010.

This is a strong recognition of the large number of importers who are now members.

With shipping services driven largely by southbound volumes, this will provide APSA with a much stronger position in advocating for Australian shippers.

FTA / APSA would like to thank the Australian Federation of International Forwarders (AFIF) for their support in this process. AFIF is the secondary inwards shipper body designated under the Act and will assist APSA in negotiating minimum levels of service with international shipping consortia.
