Empty Container Slot Fees Rise Dramatically

Coinciding with the peak season, fees for the return of empty containers are rising dramatically.  These significant fee increases can't be absorbed by transport companies, and must be passed on within the container logistics chain.

Some of the fee increases come with the promise from empty container depots of extended operating hours and better service levels.  CTAA will be working with its members, MT depots, shipping lines and others to seek out necessary productivity improvements to offset these cost increases.

Port of Melbourne Pricing & Access Review

Freight Victoria has appointed Deloitte Access Economics to conduct an independent review of Port of Melbourne pricing and access issues.

CTAA has already coordinated discussions between member companies and the Deloitte consultants to begin to provide views and data to support the need for greater pricing regulation and access improvements.

CTAA has consistently advocated for State Governments to enquire into container port pricing and access issues, driven by the unregulated and unfettered increases in stevedore Infrastructure Charges, as well as continued concerns about road and rail access terms and conditions, landside productivity and efficiency constraints.
