Industry bush fire fundraising & disaster response initiatives

Monday, January 13, 2020

Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) and the Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA) would like to acknowledge the response to the current bush fire crisis by so many members and alliance partners with the supply of goods, equipment, transport services and donations. All of whom are simply looking to support fellow Australians in need.

FTA will use our industry wide platform to share requests for support of any specific needs as they come to hand during the current crisis and in the recovery/rebuilding period. You may like to consider reaching out to your clients for their assistance as this comes to light.

The Supply Chain & Logistics Association of Australia (SCLAA) are looking to create a coordinated industry response, act as a conduit between relevant authorities and NGO's and the freight industry. We will provide further detail once SCLAA have engaged with relevant authorities.

In the interim, we note that the following entities have taken initiatives to support fund raising activities.

1-STOP

From 1st – 31st January 1-Stop will be donating 100% of all "new" 1-Stop Gateway and ComTrac sales to the NSW Rural Fire Brigade.

1-Stop will transfer 100% of the sales to the RFS on 1 Feb, if you would like to join 1-Stop in donating please contact amingare@1-stop.com or donate directly to

https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/volunteer/support-your-local-brigade.

VISA GLOBAL LOGISTICS

VGL is looking for donations to reach their target of $15,000 for the Australian Red Cross. VGL will match every dollar donated on this fundraiser page - refer HERE.

Your donation to the Red Cross Disaster Relief and Recovery helps their emergency teams to do their work - including the bush fires we're currently seeing across NSW, VIC, QLD and SA. It enables them to give people the support they need in disasters: whether that's help to prepare, a safe place to take shelter, psychological first aid, information, and practical support through the months and even years it can take to recover.

LANDCARE NSW

John McLoughlin (formerly Qantas & 1-Stop) is now CEO of a not-for-profit charity, Landcare NSW.

John has reached out to FTA to advise that once the fires abate, Landcare we will be responding to the drought / fires with their 60,000 volunteer members to start the rebuilding of habitats, planting trees and importantly supporting the communities impacted. Landcare NSW has created a fundraiser to support their affected NSW Landcare groups and assist in the rehabilitation of communities, environment and landscapes – refer HERE (Landcare NSW is a registered charity for tax deductible donations over $2).

Importantly, Landcare NSW also have a partnership with Gotcha4Life in an aim to help our communities recover from the mental trauma of these devastating conditions.

PATRICK

We also note the following information disseminated by Patrick last week via social media:

"In keeping with the Australian spirit of supporting the broader community, and in recognition of the tireless efforts of volunteers, Patrick Terminals will be donating $100,000 split equally between The Salvation Army Australia Disaster Appeal, NSW Rural Fire Service and NSW Wildlife Information Rescue and Education Service (WIRES)."
