IMPORTANT DP WORLD OPERATIONAL UPDATE - TIME FOR SHIPPING LINES TO STOP RIPPING OFF INDUSTRY |

We are grateful to both DP World and NSW Ports' executives who yesterday provided detail of the significantly improved operations as outlined in this DP World's Customer Update titled "Finalisation of Enterprise Agreements at DP World Australia".
Based on this advice, our state / federal regulators (including the Productivity Commission and the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission) must now scrutinise the validity of those shipping lines administering: - congestion surcharges on exporters and importers of up to USD 350 per TEU;
- container detention penalties for 'late' dehire of empty containers and refusal to compensate importers for the cost to staged empty container movements when shipping line contracted empty container parks are at capacity.
Its time for shipping lines to be held accountable for their responsibilities, stop ripping off our industry and address the problems that are largely of their own making - READ MORE |

VICT RECEIVES TEMPORARY INDUSTRIAL ACTION REPRIEVE VIA THE FAIR WORK COMMISSION |

The result being that an Interim Order has been issued suspending industrial action by the Maritime Union of Australia (MUA) effective from 0600 20 February 2021. Importantly, this outcome also prevents the MUA from taking industrial action until a mid-March hearing is held - READ MORE |

KHAPRA BEETLE INFORMATION SESSIONS |

The Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment are implementing urgent actions to protect Australia against the entry of khapra beetle (Trogoderma granarium) including the targeting of a range of plant products that are hosts of this pest and sea containers in which khapra beetle can hitchhike. The urgent actions are being implemented in phases. The department expects to implement Phase 6a on 12 April, 2020. Phase 6a will result in changes to the management of sea containers. The Inspector-General of Biosecurity released a review titled 'Adequacy of department's operational model to effectively mitigate biosecurity risks in evolving risk and business environments' which included nineteen recommendations - of particular note is Recommendation 19 that succinctly sums up the review There are 4 reform priorities that must be progressed concomitantly, with appropriate strategy, resourcing and timelines for each, if the department is going to free itself from current debilitating drag on its performance and set itself on a course to confidently deliver excellent biosecurity outcomes towards 2025 and beyond: 1.Regulatory maturity; 2.
