WITHDRAWAL OF MSC CONGESTION SURCHARGE EX UNITED STATES OF AMERICA TO AUSTRALIA

Wednesday, April 7, 2021

The Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA) and Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) have welcomed the latest shipping line announcement of the withdrawal of the USA - Australia congestion surcharge.

This morning the following advice was received from Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC):

"MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company wishes to advise the Congestion Surcharge (CGS) will be removed for all cargo moving from United States of America to Australia with effect from 9th April 2021 (based on the day in which the container is received by MSC in the ramp or port).

FTA / APSA acknowledge the recent removal of these surcharges by many shipping lines and whilst we appreciate that many issues impacted supply chain efficiencies the removal of this surcharge will be a welcome relief to Industry. FTA/ APSA will continue our direct engagement with shipping lines to maintain our advocacy on behalf of members.
