CEO WELCOME
________________

Welcome to this month's edition of Port News.

There is plenty to share this month about activities underway across the port precinct.

Of course, the 'cloud' of the pandemic and its associated disruptions continue to hang over all of us. Thank you to all of our customers, partners and stakeholders who are working so hard to keep our supply chains open in the safest possible manner.

Earlier this month, I was delighted to once again host Port of Brisbane's annual International Women's Day event at our Multi-User Terminal. The morning was well attended by the port community, who gathered to celebrate the achievements and contribution of women within the maritime industry and specifically, here at the Port.

Development activity within our Port West industrial estate continues at pace, with a new customer, Wallace International, soon to join the port community.

TRADE UPDATE
________________

Trade through the Port has been mostly positive over the two last months, seeing an increase in containerised imports and motor vehicle imports as both cargo sectors continue to recover from COVID-related impacts and increased local consumer demand.

On the export side, while overall year-on-year full container volumes are down, we have seen a notable increase in grain volumes – particularly sorghum and wheat – which are also being exported in high bulk tonnages. Export of fresh Queensland air – or to be precise, empty containers – is booming as shipping lines rush containers back to main Asian export ports to meet the extraordinary demand currently being experienced there.

PROPERTY UPDATE
________________

Wallace International, a locally-headquartered and full service international freight and landside logistics company, is relocating to Port West Industrial Estate at Lytton, signing a 10-year lease with PBPL for a 2.22ha site.

Built to their specific requirements, the facility will comprise an 8,982sqm warehouse, 1,000sqm office space, 73 car parking bays, sunken docks and a dock office and will work towards achieving a 4-star, Green Star equivalent design, standard for all new PBPL property developments.

Construction and fit-out is expected to commence mid-2021 and complete by end-2021.

For more information, please head to our website for details.

COMMUNITY GRANTS NOW OPEN
________________

Are you a registered charity or not-for-profit community organisation that could use a funding boost of up to $15,000? Do you know an organisation that could?

PBPL's 2021 Community Grant Program is now open, with a total of $100,000 in funding available to eligible organisations. We are keen to hear from community partners – more information, including eligibility criteria and application forms are available on our website. Applications close 30 April 2021.

In other community news, PBPL hosted our first Community Consultative Committee meeting for the year. Six sponsorship proposals were presented and discussed by members, and we're looking forward to announcing the first quarter recipients soon.

INTER-AGENCY TRAINING AT BRISBANE INTERNATIONAL CRUISE TERMINAL
________________

During March, the Brisbane International Cruise Terminal was pleased to play host to an inter-agency canine training day for Australian Border Force, Australian Federal Police and Queensland Police Service.

These dogs and their handlers are highly trained to keep us all safe, with very impressive skills on display.
It was a great opportunity to utilise the facility while cruising is paused due to COVID, while giving our law enforcement partners even more opportunities to get familiar with the site while they're there.

PORT COMMUNITY CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY
________________

Around 100 women from across the Port precinct came together to celebrate International Women's Day at a morning tea hosted by PBPL last month. Click here to watch our highlights video.

This year the global event, held every year on 8 March, focused on the theme #ChooseToChallenge, asking people to help create change by challenging the status quo.

Thank you to all who joined us at the event and for your ongoing contribution to the success of the Port of Brisbane and Australia's maritime sector.
