Recent changes to the management of Cargo Compliance Verification inspections

Wednesday, April 21, 2021

Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) wish to advise that the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment (the department) has recently altered part of the process of shipments subject to Cargo Compliance Verification (CCV)

CCV inspections are conducted by the department on containerised sea cargo imported into Australia. This is a part of the system of verification that ensures the integrity of the Australian biosecurity system.  Unlike most other inspection types, CCVs can be performed at the importers premises.

Previously the CCV inspection location could be nominated when the importer / customs brokerage made a booking with the department.  This is no longer the case and the inspection location MUST be provided before a CCV inspection direction will be issued.

A decision was made by the department to align CCV's with any other standard lodgement, whereby a hold would be placed on the consignment until a location for the inspection has been chosen.

The department will try to call the importer / customs broker in the first instance however if they are unreachable, the following options are available:

  1. Update the location in COLS using the original LRN
  2. Contact the departments Client Contact Group who will update the location and remove the "hold pending information" direction.
