MAERSK - Suez Incident – Congestion surcharge

Thursday, May 6, 2021

SOURCE: MAERSK

As previously communicated the Suez channel is again allowing vessels to pass through, however, due to the high frequency of arrivals after the Suez canal blockage eased up, we see increase pressure on port terminals and depots and subsequent waiting time on the inland side across all transport modes.

Therefore we will implement a congestion surcharge for all Carrier Haulage and Multi-carrier bookings as follows:

  • For all barge, rail and all combined intermodal transports bookings to/from the main ports: EUR 10 per container
  • For all truck bookings to/from the main ports: EUR 25 per container

The congestion surcharge will be applicable as from Tuesday May 4st, 2021 until June 30th, 2021. We will continue to monitor the situation and will extend the surcharge beyond June 30th, 2021, in case the congestion doesn't ease up.

We will continuously monitor the situation to support best possible flows and will keep you updated.

We appreciate your understanding and support to overcome this extraordinary situation together.
