Svitzer Australia - FWC Hearing remains in progress – UPDATE 11

Thursday, November 17, 2022

Freight & Trade Alliance and the Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA) have received advice from Svitzer Australia that as at 5.30pm AEDT today (17 November 2022), the Fair Work Commission (FWC) is still hearing submissions.

In parallel, FTA / APSA have engaged with container port operators nationally to gain an understanding of contingency arrangements.

While variations exist on a port by port basis due to unique circumstances, many intend to move vessels from berth to anchor in the coming hours should the lockout continue OR in the event of no outcome from the FWC with proceedings to continue tomorrow.

We remain hopeful of a (positive) outcome this evening - in the event that the lockout stands or no decision is made tonight, FTA / APSA will provide further detail on known contingency arrangements.
