Warehouse and Depot Security Identification Card (WADSIC) - UPDATE 2

Tuesday, January 3, 2023

Further to our member notice from 1 December 2022 (incorporating links to a webinar recording "Depot & Warehouse Obligations – Nov 2022" delivered by Russell Wiese [CGT Law] on 9 November 2022 AND answers to members' questions), Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) has maintained regular contact with the Australian Border Force (ABF) in terms of implementation of new Sec 77G Depot and Sec 79 Warehouse requirements to support Australian Customs Notice (ACN) 2022/46

As previously advised, FTA has received assurance from the ABF as follows:

  • whilst the ABF will not issue the Warehouse and Depot Security Identification Card (WADSIC), nor will it endorse other card issuers, they have committed to provide the form approved by the Comptroller-General; and
  • a reasonable extension (to be advised) to the 1 November 2022 timeframe will be provided in terms of supplying staff with the new WADSIC.

In response, FTA has followed up with the ABF advocating for a minimum 90 day moratorium period from the time of the release of the WADSIC specification (form as approved by the Comptroller-General).

In terms of further support to members, FTA is pleased to advise that after approaching multiple card suppliers, we have selected a cost and operationally effective solution. Further detail will be released once the final WADSIC form is released by the ABF to ensure full compliance with statutory requirements.
