FEDERAL BUDGET 2023

On Tuesday 10 May Treasurer Jim Chalmers handed down the Federal Budget for 2023/24.

Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) and the Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA) have identified extracts from the Budget and supporting  papers (impacting the international supply chain, logistics and border clearance sectors) which have been outlined in the below notices to members. Commentary has also been provided by Russell Wiese from CGT.

FTA / APSA will engage, in particular with the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, to ensure that funds allocated will not only provide a Biosecure Australia but also improve the service delivery to importers, exporters, border clearance industry and our members in areas such as document processing and inspection services.

AAT congestion and changes to storage arrangements

Freight & Trade Alliance has , over the past week, received feedback from members on the congestion and  flagged changes to storage policy at AAT terminals, Tom Jensen, Head of International Freight & Logistics at FTA , has engaged with AAT and received from them acknowledgement that they will review all responses to their notice. and advise further in due course.

Sea Container Cleanliness - Global Changes

The development of new global measures for the avoidance of contamination of sea containers by invasive pests and cargoes will have a significant impact on international trade operational and reporting practices. Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) and the Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA) through their membership of the Global Shippers Forum have been actively involved in this process, and are privileged to be on the organising committee for the upcoming International forum to be held in Brisbane. READ MORE

Warehouse and Depot Security Identification Card (WADSIC)



Inbound connects thousands of participants in licensed Sec 77G Depot and Sec 79 Warehouses around Australia through its technology platform - FTA has partnered with Inbound to provide industry with an easy way to procure compliant WADSICs.

SEAFREIGHT

DP World Brisbane - Congestion

Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA)  has received feedback from members on issues impacting services at the DP World facility in Brisbane. As with any service delivery issues, we urge members to liaise closely with relevant Shipping Lines to ensure they are aware of the issues and also that their detention polices can be adjusted in light of any inability of their contracted parties to perform adequate / timely service levels to industry. FTA have rasied the matter with DP World and will advise once a response is received.  

Authorised MUA Stop Work Meeting at DP World Sydney

An authorised two hour MUA stop work meeting will be held in DP World Sydney from 1pm – 3pm on Thursday, 25th May 2023. All terminal operations will cease during this period.

SUPPLY CHAIN SNAPSHOT


Pre-COVID, 48 airlines operated into and out of Sydney Airport. Since mid-April 2023, the number of airlines has increased to 50 – a new record.

Outbound flights ex. AU increased 9.6% from our previous report W/E 30 MAR 2023 (1576 to 1727).
Wide-body flights increased 6% in the same period.
Unfortunately, overall wide-body flights remain 6% lower than the same period in 2019

Clarification on Australia's importing country requirements for phytosanitary certificates

 

Following on from the information in IAN 02-2023 and IAN 93-2023 , The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry have issued IAN 115-2023 to clarify Australia's importing country requirements for phytosanitary certificates that have been electronically stamped/signed and where they include a QR code or weblink to enable online verification of the document.
