Welcome to this month's edition of Port of Brisbane News.

It was a big month at the Port as we welcomed the longest container vessel to call, the CMA CGM Pelleas, as well as the longest container train to roll into our Brisbane Multimodal Terminal.

We were pleased to release our 2022/23 Sustainability Report and proud to share for the fourth consecutive year, PBPL achieved a 5-star GRESB rating, ranking Port of Brisbane as the top port in Australia within our category.

We also celebrated multiple property milestones including the sod turn for our customer, Blue Water Shipping, and announcement of our first customer to Port West stage 2, Electrolux Group.

Sustainability update

In September we released our 2022/23 Sustainability Report, providing an update of our sustainability projects and initiatives over the last 12 months and the progress we're making towards our ambitious 2030 sustainability goals across our four pillars – People, Prosperity, Planet and Partnerships.

Much of our progress is due to the collaboration and ongoing support of our customers and partners, and we thank you for your ongoing support. Visit our website for more information and to read the report
We're proud to share for the fourth consecutive year, we've achieved a 5-star GRESB rating, achieving an overall score of 98/100 (up from 94/100) and ranking Port of Brisbane as the number 1 port in Australia out of 6 in our division (Port Companies – Maintenance and Operations) and the 31st infrastructure asset out of 681 globally.

GRESB is a globally recognised assessment that evaluates ESG performance and sustainability 'best practices' for real estate and infrastructure funds, companies and assets worldwide.

900m train rolls into the BMT

Congratulations to our customer, Aurizon, who welcomed its first north-south east coast container train service to our Brisbane Multimodal Terminal (BMT).

The weekly return service will operate on the Melbourne-Sydney-Brisbane corridor and caters to a range of containerised freight, including local manufactured goods and produce together with import and export traffic, in a co-ordinated port-rail-terminal-rail-port service.

At 900m, it was also the longest container train to come through the Port, further demonstrating the BMT's capacity as we continue to seek opportunities to grow freight volumes through the terminal.

Congratulations to our BMT team and our customer on this milestone event!

Port welcomes longest container ship

Congratulations to our customers DP World Brisbane and CMA CGM on the arrival of the Pelleas late last month, the longest container ship to call at the Port of Brisbane.

At about 350 metres long and 42.8 metres wide (beam), the Pelleas can transport over 9,600 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent containers) and as much as 111,000 tonnes of cargo.

Globally, container vessels are getting larger, and we remain focused on working with our customers and stakeholders to ensure the Port of Brisbane can accommodate the larger ships seeking to call in Brisbane.

The arrival of the Pelleas demonstrates the vital role the Port will continue to play in supporting Queensland and Australia's economic and trade growth, well into the future.

Sod turned on Blue Water Shipping facility

It was fantastic to be joined by Blue Water Shipping, including COO Thomas Bek who travelled from Denmark, to turn the sod on a 5.17ha site on Fisherman Islands, ahead of construction commencing on their new Port of Brisbane home!

The warehouse and logistics facility will allow Blue Water to expand its current operations while providing potential for future expansion to support their growing business.

Congratulations to all involved, including key project partners Sparc* architects, Johnstaff and Northrop Consulting Engineers

Electrolux moving to Port West Stage 2

Electrolux Group will soon become our first customer to move into Stage 2 of our Port West industrial estate in Lytton, recently signing a 10-year lease for a 4.22ha site.

We will target a 6-Star Green-Star rated facility, aligning with their global sustainability objectives as well as our own sustainability ambitions. The purpose-built development will include a distribution centre and high-end showroom and is anticipated to be complete in 2024.

The new facility will be delivered by principal contractor McNab with project management by Johnstaff and JLL, design by architects Sparc* and structural solution by Northrop Consulting Engineers.  Read more on our website.
