Qantas Freight Operational Update 22 - 50% off international Terminal Service Fees

Thursday, November 2, 2023

Further to Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) updates, we today received direct advice from Qantas Freight senior management agreeing to our advocacy for compensation as a result of their system cutover issues and on the proposal of a limited form of compensation.

Qantas Freight have provided the following update via their website as at 1400 AEDT 2 November

Qantas Freight is offering 50 per cent off international Terminal Service Fees at our major terminals in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney from the start of the next billing cycle, to show our appreciation for your patience as we worked through delays and backlogs. This will apply for shipments lodged or collected between 5 Nov 2023 and 19 Nov 2023, and will exclude import and export storage fees, and security screening fees.

Status update

To demonstrate our progress, we're tracking some key metrics to highlight where we are:

  • Terminal international backlog volumes and processing times are at pre cutover levels.
  • More than 75% of drivers are now using Dock Direct to collect their international shipments.
  • International Flown as Booked performance continues to improve. Current performance is at 88% which is in line with September results.
  • Customer service average call wait times are less than 5 minutes.

Invoicing

We're in the process of reconciling invoices for domestic freight and international Terminal Service Fees for shipments impacted by the delays at our terminals post our system cutover. We'll provide you with updates once we've confirmed expected timings for distribution.

Domestic fuel surcharge

As the fuel surcharge information is normally included in domestic invoices, we've published the previous and current surcharge (effective from 21 Oct 2023) on our ground handling and other fees page.

If you wish to make a claim for delayed or damaged freight, follow the prompts on our Contact us page. Time limits on claims and actions apply and can be found in our international conditions of carriage.
