Purpose

To advise of an approved amendment to the National Standard for Organic and Bio-Dynamic Produce (National Standard).

Key points

The department has approved the addition of algae to the National Standard for Organic and Bio-dynamic Produce Edition 3.8 under section 1.24.

The amendment application to include algae was made in February 2023. It was released for public comment for 30 days via the departments 'Have Your Say' website in early 2023 with the amendment and responses then reviewed by the National Standard Advisory Committee (NSAC).

The departments approval followed consideration of the NSAC decision.

Amendments can be found below at Attachment A.

The National Standard will be updated and released in 2024.

Consultation on amendment proposals are located on the departments 'Have Your Say' webpage.

An online form is also available to ask questions on the content of, or an interpretation of, the National Standard.
