Building momentum for federal government intervention on waterfront industrial action - MEDIA UPDATE 11

Tuesday, January 9, 2024

Yesterday's DP World media release appears to have had the desired effect of raising the awareness of economic impacts resulting from their failed bargaining with the union and ongoing Protected Industrial Action (PIA).

Bringing this to a head was the announcement that effective Friday 12 January 2024, DP World will no longer tolerate partial work bans. As a result, employees participating in these actions will not be entitled to any payment until they are ready and willing to perform all of their normal duties.

Importantly, a broad spectrum of shadow ministers (both state and federal) and industry representatives picked up on these latest developments and spoke to all forms of media.

Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) and the Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA) yesterday also briefed member associations and export commodity groups who will speak to the media in coming days.

In parallel, FTA took the lead in representing freight forwarders, customs broker, importers and small business with interviews across all Triple M national affiliated radio networks, SBS and Channel 10 - refer HERE

MEMBER FEEDBACK

We again wish to remind members that while we have an excellent relationship with a wide cross-section of trade, agriculture and mainstream media, we need of "real life" experiences highlighting the impacts to business and the wider economy - this is essential to maintain the momentum and interest for what appears will be a long, drawn out campaign.
