Wednesday, February 7, 2024

Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) and the Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA) has been notified the Department of infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts (the Department), of the initiation of the implementation of the Government's response to recommendations of the Strategic Fleet Final Report.

A copy of the Taskforce's final report and the Government's response can be accessed on the Department's website via the following link: Maritime Strategic Fleet | Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts.

The Department has prepared an implementation consultation paper for cargo owners to help guide the implementation of the strategic fleet.

The Department are seeking your views, and the views of organisations you represent, on how to maximise cargo owner support for the strategic fleet and the impacts to business arising from the Government's ability to requisition strategic fleet vessels.

Some stakeholders have received a separate consultative paper targeted at vessel operators so please only provide responses to this paper if you would like to contribute new input.

Please provide your responses by 23 February 2024. The information you provide will be treated as commercial-in-confidence.

Please reach out to the Department via phone or return email if you have any queries.
