Class 14.4 Approved Arrangement – Expansion of eligible containers for Industry Inspection

Friday, February 16, 2024

Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) and its members worked with the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (the department) for much of 2021/22 advocating for and in the codesign of the 14.4 Approved Arrangement.

The 14.4 authorises industry to perform rural tailgate inspections on impediment free consignments.  This allows in-scope containers to be assessed and released without the intervention of a biosecurity officer.

The department is expanding the scope of eligible sea containers permitted to be inspected by Biosecurity Industry Participants under Approved Arrangement Class 14.4 -Rural tailgate inspection.

The expanded class 14.4 conditions authorise industry to inspect:

  • Sea containers where the commodity has been assessed and released on documentation, or with discussion with the Department under certain permit conditions set by the department,
  • Sea containers with commodities requiring mandatory treatment prior to a rural tailgate inspection being performed.
