SUMMER 2024

We started the year with a big splash at the launch of our new vessels, the Burra and Girawaa, our fastest response vessels ever commissioned by Port Authority.

The vessels are part of a $11.5 million investment to enhance operational maritime capabilities in Sydney Harbour and Botany and will play a pivotal role in major on-water incidents, including firefighting operations.

The Burra also made its grand debut at the 2024 Australia Day live concert on Sydney Harbour showcasing its capabilities during a spectacular on-water performance. With the ability to pump 16,000 litres of sea water every minute the Burra dazzled onlookers during the celebrations.

We are proud to see the Burra and Girawaa take their place as the new icons of our working harbours, honouring the rich tapestry of maritime heritage and through their names, the Traditional Owners whose waters and lands we help to protect every day.

Over the summer we also recognised the retirement of our Ted Noffs Tug to its namesake's family following almost 40 years of maritime service at Port Botany. Port Authority's Chief Operating Officer, John Finch presented the bell to the grandson of Ted Noffs, Mr Matt Noffs, who is the CEO of the Ted Noffs Foundation.

Finally, we recognise the fantastic summer cruise season occurring here in NSW, featuring a record number of maiden cruise lines visiting our ports for the first time this summer. The growth of cruise ship visits is very exciting further cementing NSW as the cruise capital of Australia.

I hope you enjoy this edition of Port Matters and I look forward to sharing updates and news with you on Port Authority projects and initiatives throughout the year ahead.
