Auckland man jailed

A Customs investigation has resulted in 4 years and 4 months' jail time for a 33-year-old Auckland man who was sharing images and videos depicting extreme sexual acts involving children.

Customs is committed to identifying individuals at the earliest opportunity to put a stop to this type of offending.

Chief Customs Officer - Child Exploitation Operations Team, Simon Peterson, says "The fact this material is shared online does not reduce its impact on the victims – it is all abuse, with children re-victimised every time material showing their abuse is viewed and shared, and the demand this offending then creates for new images and new victims.

Women in export event

Join other women in the export sector and become inspired, share and connect in an event run by New Zealand Trade and Enterprise.

Brand awareness is one of the biggest challenges exporters face across all sectors and industries. Overseas markets are highly competitive so getting people to notice your brand is harder than it is in New Zealand.

Sign up to this event and you'll hear from two amazing founders and leaders of successful New Zealand brands and how they used the Know It, Show It, Grow It framework in international markets.

Phishing scam alert

Customs is aware of a scam email in circulation which appears to be from Customs but is likely a phishing scam.

Customs has received a report of an email which asks recipients to vote for one of three options relating to a CSV file, and it contains a Customs staff signature.

Do not open emails or attachments from Customs unless it is sent from an official Customs address (customs.govt.nz).

Anyone who receives fraudulent emails should report it to the NetSafe scam reporting centre.
