National Measurement Institute (NMI) trade measurement inspectors are conducting audits of international food retailers, wholesalers and importers from 18 to 22 March 2024.

Are you getting what you pay for when buying international foods?
Not all imported food has gone through the same level of quality assurance testing as products produced or packed in Australia. We're checking you get what you pay for.
NMI trade measurement inspectors will visit around 400 businesses who produce, import and distribute:
- seasonal produce
- specialty food
- grocery items.
As part of the visits, trade measurement inspectors will:
- test measuring instruments such as shop scales
- inspect packaged goods
- check labels for accuracy
- review business practices
- investigate complaints about potential breaches
- give advice on meeting compliance obligations
- take enforcement action when needed.
