Species: All livestock
Classification(s): Breeder, feeder, slaughter
Market(s): Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Attention

  • Licenced livestock exporters
  • Meat and Livestock Australia
  • LiveCorp
  • Australian Livestock Exporters' Council
  • Departmental staff

Purpose

To reiterate to exporters the need to provide import permits for consignments of livestock destined to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) when submitting a Notice of intention to export (NOI) to enable the department to formally clarify any additional import requirements.

Key points

  • Import permits recently presented for livestock destined to KSA have included additional import requirements that are not in agreed protocols and cannot be met.
  • To enable consignments to proceed for export, on a consignment-by-consignment basis, the department has written to the KSA authority to clarify additional import requirements and confirm any necessary measures to be taken and additional certification.
  • Clarifying import requirements government-to-government can take time and the approval of an NOI and the export of a consignment is not possible until any clarifying response is received.

Instructions

  1. All consignments of livestock destined to KSA require an import permit accompanied by a NAATI accredited translation if not in English.
  2. Exporters of livestock to KSA must submit all import permits that they intend to use for a consignment at the time of NOI submission to enable the department to formally clarify any additional import requirements.
  3. The department will inform exporters in writing of any necessary additional pre-export preparations and certification required.
  4. Should an exporter submit a new import permit after NOI approval and before export then the consignment may not be able to proceed for export until any additional import requirements are clarified.

Background

  • KSA import permits are issued by the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture and include a serial number, date of issue, quick-response code (QR Code) and a list of general conditions.
    • A screenshot of the KSA permit issuing system which may include details of an issued import permit is not an import permit.
